Vickie and I went to Lincoln grade school together, walked to school together many times, played and stayed all night at one another's homes. It was spooky and fun to stay at her house, because she lived above her family's funeral home. We would creep down and look at the corpses. Now, isn't that just too Vickie??
Vickie was just so much fun and so very full of life. Her death was called a suicide, but I have never believed that.
After the birth of our oldest daughter, I became very ill with an infection. Vickie's dad and brother, Jan, came and got me and my baby, took us to my mother's house in their ambulance so Mother could care for us while Buddy worked. They were so kind and thoughtful. And never charged a penny.
I miss Vickie, and I think about her often with love.
I also remember staying all night with Vicki and creeping around downstairs in the funeral home. The best thing were the little bottles of Coca-Cola in a little refrigerator in one of the private rooms for the families. I remember she had hayfever and on a field trip to Lafayette, I waved golden rod in her face to make her sneeze. The mean things we do as kids. Vicki was working at the Clinton County Hospital when I had our 1st daughter, Heather and was in the delivery room.
Vick was my high school sweetheat.I took her to the prom.I remember sitting on the steps in front the hartman funeral house watching the sun come up the day after the prom.It was hard to believe when she died.We shall all be together again some day.
