Joe C. “Butch” Doan, 81, of Frankfort, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Havre De Grace, Maryland, on August 5, 1944, to Joe T. Doan and Jean (Coapstick) Doan Bache. He married Linda Huckleberry on August 3, 1974, and she survives.
Butch graduated from Frankfort High School, class of 1962, before going on to Purdue University where he earned his BS in engineering, as well as a spot on the school’s baseball team. From his graduation in 1966 onward, his heart was forever with the Boilers, as he went on to be a football and basketball season ticket holder all the way up through 2011 and remained a passionate fan thereafter.
Following his Purdue education, Butch went on to earn his MBA from Cornell University in 1968, then a position with Inland Steel, until he returned to Frankfort in 1971, at which time he became the owner of Coapstick Insurance Agency.
It was this homecoming that marked the beginning of Butch’s storied dedication to his community. During his decades of service, he was a life-long member and one-time president of the Frankfort Country Club and, likewise, a board member and one-time chairman at The Farmers Bank and president of the Frankfort Rotary Club.
He also served on the Clinton County Hospital Board and was a founding board member of the Education Foundation and the Humane Society of Clinton County. He was a Session member of the First Presbyterian Church and also found time to serve as an acting member of the Frankfort Elks, Moose, Masonic Lodge and Partners in Progress (PIP) Board.
In his downtime, Butch enjoyed the sport of fishing and the game of golf, though he played both with a self-deprecating style that endeared him with so many.
Throughout it all, across his professional and personal life, Butch most demonstrated a sincerity, integrity, wit and humility that formed the bonds of countless friendships and set the highest examples for the family who loved him so dearly.
Along with his wife of 51 years, Butch is survived by his daughters, Angie (Jeff) Worzala and Julie (Brant) Baumann; a brother, John (Violet) Doan; and his grandchildren, Melanie and Joey Worzala, Molly Miller, and Stevie Baumann, with whom he so cherished his role as ‘Poppy.’
Butch was preceded in passing by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at Frankfort Evangelical Presbyterian Church from 3pm until the time of the memorial service at at 6pm on Thursday, July 2, 2026. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Green Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frankfort Education Foundation or the Humane Society of Clinton County. I had the closes contact with Joe than anyone in the class of 1962. We were in the same PE class in high school with coach Fletcher McCain. At that time there wasn't any type of instruction or format that the teacher presented. You just ran around the gym, played basketball, ect. Well, there was one activity that was available to participate in that no school on Earth would offer today. That was boxing! Yes, boxing! There were large wrestling mats on the stage floor and boxing gloves. Anyone who wanted to could put on the gloves and go at it. Well, Joe and I decided that we would put on the gloves and fight it out. Neither of us knew what we were doing. We just pounded on each other until we got worn out and decided to quit. This was the first and only boxing match that either of us were in. Over the years we laughed about this great sporting event. Joe was always an easy going guy who enjoyed interacting with people. He will be remembered as such.

I am so sorry that I basically 'lost' contact with you, Joe. I remember how good a friend and teammate you were when we were on the Wrestling Team together. Plus, you were a great friend in high school in general. In my mind, Joe, you will never be forgotten. You'll be very, very sadly missed ! ! !

Joe was a good friend and a genuinely fine person. Play football and baseball with Joe and he was s fine athlete and an intregsl part of Frankforts fine 1962 North Central Conference football runnerup!!! They were and not to many people like Joe was! Rest in peace!
